The Ontario Ministry of Education has issued an order to close all publicly funded schools effective immediately with an anticipated return date of April 5, 2020 to interrupt the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.  At this time, all hiring processes have been cancelled and will be rescheduled after the shutdown.  Please monitor  your email, as you may receive a rescheduled date and invitation after April 5, 2020.  There will be no new job postings posted during the shutdown period.  The only jobs that will remain posted on the Careers page are the “ongoing” postings (these include positions in the identified high needs areas that are posted all year) and summer positions/opportunities.  Any postings that were closing during the weeks of March 14, 2020 - April 5, 2020 were cancelled and will be re-posted after April 5, 2020.  If you applied for a posting prior to the shutdown, please be patient as we will be communicating with everyone via email once board offices re-open.



Position:  2019/2020 International & Indigenous Languages Teachers (OCT) & Instructors (Non-OCT) - OJIBWE

Work Location:  Community and International Education Services, Various Sites

  • Huron Heights Secondary School (credit program on Wednesdays from 5:45 to 9:25 pm)
  •  Middlefield Collegiate Institute (credit program on Saturdays from 8:45 am to 12:25 pm)
  •  Huron Heights Secondary School (elementary program on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 8:30 pm) 
  •  Richmond Hill High School (elementary program on Fridays from 6:00 to 8:30 pm)
  •  Unionville High School (elementary program on Tuesdays from 6:00 to 8:30 pm)

Elementary Program

The successful candidate will work for 2.5 hours per week for 30 weeks, from September to June.  The rate of pay for a teacher is $41.41/hour if you are an Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT); for an instructor the rate of pay is $38.99 per hour if you are not an OCT.

Credit Program

The successful candidate will work for 3.7 hours per week for 30 weeks, from September to June.  The rate of pay for a teacher is $55.52 per hour (must be an OCT although non-OCT candidates may be considered).

  • Plan, deliver, and coordinate a program that is optimal for the language learning and that reflects current teaching practices in Ontario;
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students;
  • Develop and maintain an equitable and inclusive learning environment;
  • Communicate about student progress to administrators, parents, and students;
  • Encourage parent involvement in student learning at home and at school;
  • Supervision of students as assigned; and
  • Other duties as assigned.


Candidate selection will be based on the results of  interview, experience and qualifications and reference checks.

Preference will be given to candidates who have some of the following qualifications and/or experiences:

  •  Fluency in the Ojibwe language is an asset (with the ability to pass a conversational fluency test with community partners);
  • Some teaching experience (preferably language teaching);
  • Ontario College of Teachers Certification for credit courses. AQ in Ojibwe is preferred;
  • Teaching Certificate from another province or country.
  • Language teaching certification from another school board.
  • TESL/TEFL/TOEFL/ESL or similar certifications.
  • ECE/EA qualifications and/or experiences.
  • Related degree or diploma.


Additional Information:

The Community and International Education Services (CIES) hiring protocol allows teachers to teach and/or administrate for two CIES sessions per school year and/or administrate one term/session at a time.   

Candidates will only be allowed to teach and/or administrate a third session on an emergency basis in consideration of demand in a particular subject area, course or administrative position. 

A session is defined as the time needed to deliver a program of approximately 110 hours or the equivalent.  CIES sessions include positions at e-Learning, Night School, Summer School, International & Indigenous Languages Secondary Credit and Elementary Non-Credit Programs, and Summer Institute.
